English Touring Opera returns to Norwich with a poetic production of the most popular of operas.
Puccini’s La Bohème is a story of young love, starting on Christmas Eve in a Parisian garret. On this festive, snowy night the lovers draw close, but poverty forces them apart. Their story is told in the most memorable music, from ‘Che gelida manina’ to the shattering brass chords announcing Mimi’s death.
ETO’s much-praised production, in period dress and inventive designs, sung in Italian, promises to break every heart and breathe joy into the spirit of everyone who has ever wanted love.
Thinking about Cinema was entertainments for the everyone, then I was thinking why is Opera seen just for the educated upper class in Britain.
May be the price of the tickets 🎟 are much higher in the UK, may be the subject matter can not be understood? may be because it in other languages.
Or may be if Opera was popular, then learning other languages would be more popular, English is not the only language even in Britain, and English was not the first?
Silly me, my mind think of silly subjects.
