notes to myself

Caffrey's Black Stout (3.4% ABV), launched by Molson Coors in January 2026, is a modern, nitrogenated, and sessionable stout with roasted malt and cocoa notes. It revives the heritage of Thomas Caffrey’s 1897 Belfast-based brewery, which originally specialized in stouts and porters before the brand became known for its 1994 Irish Ale.
Key Historical & Brand Details:
  • Origins: Founded in 1897 by Thomas Caffrey at the Ulster Brewery in Belfast.
  • Brand Evolution: Originally a stout/porter producer, the brand was famous for the 1994 launch of Caffrey's Irish Ale.
  • Ownership: The brand was acquired by Bass in 1964 and later by Molson Coors in 2002.
  • The Revival (2026): Launched to tap into the growing stout market, this new offering is a "historically grounded" recipe rather than a direct, 100-year-old formula.
  • Flavor Profile: The 3.4% ABV nitro-stout features roasted malt, cocoa, and subtle liquorice.
The move is designed to compete with established brands during a surge in popularity for the category, particularly among younger drinker

I am in Harringtons, that on the other side of road from Scruffy Murphy's, on Harrington Street, this is a new bar, and I came in as Murphy's Stout is £3, it look amazing inside here, and downstairs, darts, pool tables, arcade machine, and they have Caffrey's Irish Ale, which is nothing like what it used to taste like.
But we now got Caffrey's Black Stout, with it coffee ☕ taste ? Again nothing to do with the Belfast closed Brewery, but a tribute Stout, then it great πŸ˜ƒ, and I thought a new beer, well of course that would cost more, in a new stylish bar like this, and it was, £3 🀑 give away price 🀩 πŸ₯³, and if you want something more Irish, they Murphy's at £3, and Guinness at I think £4 in Happy Hour ? It our choice 🀩
