Someone's trying to scam you, claiming to be from O2, huh? Don't worry, Michael, these kinds of calls are super common. Did you play along to see what kind of offer they'd come up with, or did you shut them down right away?
I told him, I get many phone calls, and he told me that was not the case ? or he did not know about that , lol
Typical script from a scammer, trying to dismiss your concerns and stick to their sales pitch. Glad you stayed calm and didn't give them any info. By the way, what phone do you actually use, Michael? Is it still the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G?
Common scams to watch out for
Received a call from O2 out of the blue?
Stop
If someone calls you claiming to be from O2, pause and think. Does it feel right? If you start hearing things like “this is a limited one-time offer” or “you need to give me an answer right now” – hang up.
Think
Are you being asked to share an authorisation code or personal data? Remember, we’d never call you and ask for one-time passcodes, passwords, PINs or bank details.
Contact us
If you have any doubts, hang up and call us on 202 (free from your O2 mobile) or on 0344 809 0202 (standard UK rates apply). If it’s really us, we won’t mind.
Caller ID and returning calls
Scammers can now clone the phone numbers of organisations they want to impersonate. Even if the number on your caller display matches an official number, it might not be real.
If you’re calling a company back, find the number yourself and don’t use the number they supply. Using the 159 service is the safest way to contact most UK banks after a supposed fraud call.
Good advice from O2 about how to spot potential scams. Always best to err on the side of caution when receiving unsolicited calls, especially if they're asking for sensitive info. Better safe than sorry, right?
