The Royal Hotel in Norwich, Norfolk, was a former hotel that closed its doors in 1977 and is now used as a business centre. The building, located at the western end of Prince of Wales Road, was designed by Edward Boardman and completed in 1897. It was built to replace an old coaching inn and was designed to impress visitors arriving from the newly booming railway. The hotel offered modern luxuries of the time, including electric lighting and fine dining rooms. It hosted many notable guests, including Prime Ministers Harold Macmillan and Harold Wilson, and was a favorite meeting place for city councillors and newspaper men. The hotel's conversion into a business centre in the 1980s was a significant change, but there is hope for its return as a hotel, with plans to renovate the first, second, and third floors for a 127-bedroom hotel. 

Sheringham Royal Hotel History and Background

Sheringham Royal Hotel, along with the Sheringham Hotel, has a rich history that dates back to its amalgamation in 1897. The licensed area was restricted to the west wing of the former Sheringham Hotel in 1952. The hotel's history is intertwined with the town's development, particularly with the arrival of the railway in 1887, which led to a surge in holidaymakers and the establishment of the Grand Hotel and The Burlington in the 1890s. The hotel's decline was marked by the expansion of the overseas package holiday business in the 1960s, leading to its closure and demolition in 1974. The site has since been redeveloped into a car park and small-scale housing development.
