Adelphi hotel, Liverpool

Here is a spooky story I wrote about the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, based on the information I found:

The Third Floor

Emma and Jake had always been fascinated by the paranormal. They loved watching ghost hunting shows, reading horror novels, and visiting haunted places. They decided to spend their anniversary at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool, one of the most haunted hotels in the UK1. They booked a room on the third floor, where many guests had reported strange and terrifying experiences.

They arrived at the hotel in the evening, and checked in at the reception. The hotel was grand and elegant, with crystal chandeliers and marble hallways. They felt like they had stepped back in time to a more glamorous era. They took the lift to the third floor, and walked along the corridor to their room. The door had a brass number 317 on it. They opened it and entered.

The room was spacious and comfortable, with a large bed, a wardrobe, a dressing table, and a TV. There was also a telephone on the bedside table, which Emma thought was odd, since most people used their mobile phones nowadays. She picked it up and heard a dial tone. She shrugged and put it back.

They unpacked their bags and decided to go for dinner at one of the hotel’s restaurants. They chose Cromptons, which served French cuisine. They enjoyed a delicious meal and a bottle of wine, and toasted to their anniversary. They felt happy and relaxed.

After dinner, they went back to their room. They changed into their pyjamas and got into bed. They turned on the TV and watched a comedy show. They laughed and cuddled, feeling cosy and warm.

They turned off the TV and the lights, and kissed each other goodnight. They closed their eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Emma woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. She felt cold and uneasy. She looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was 3:17 am. She wondered what had woken her up. She turned to Jake, who was sleeping soundly next to her. She reached out to touch him, but stopped when she saw something that made her gasp.

There was a man standing by the side of their bed.

He was tall and thin, with dark hair and pale skin. He wore a suit and a tie, and had a hat on his head. He looked like he belonged to another time period. He stared at Emma with an expressionless face.

Emma felt a surge of fear and panic. She wanted to scream, but no sound came out of her mouth. She wanted to move, but she felt paralysed. She felt like she was trapped in a nightmare.

The man did not say anything. He just stood there, watching her.

Emma tried to wake up Jake, but he did not respond. He seemed oblivious to the intruder in their room.

Emma wondered who the man was, and what he wanted from them. She remembered reading that some guests had seen the ghost of a man named George standing next to their bed during the night2. Was this George? Why was he haunting them?

She wished she could escape from this horror.

She closed her eyes and prayed for it to end.

She opened her eyes again.

The man was gone.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

She looked at Jake, who was still sleeping peacefully.

She wondered if it had been a hallucination or a dream.

She reached for her phone on the bedside table, hoping to find some comfort or explanation online.

She picked it up and turned it on.

She saw that she had missed a call from an unknown number.

She checked the time of the call.

It was 3:17 am.

She felt a chill down her spine.

She looked at the phone screen again.

She saw that there was a voicemail message waiting for her.

She pressed play.

She heard a voice that made her blood run cold.

It was the voice of the man who had stood by their bed.

It said:

“Hello, Emma. This is George. I hope you enjoyed your stay at the Adelphi Hotel.”
