Vickers VC10 - the lost flagship

"The Vickers VC10 is a narrow-body long-range aircraft developed by British  Vickers-Armstrongs conglomerate in the early 1960s. The plane made its maiden flight in 1962 and became the first civilian aircraft in the world, which applied a rear-engined quad layout (two other planes were the Soviet Ilyushin Il-62 and American Lockheed Jetstar). The newest airframe, engines, and avionics made the VC10 one of the most advanced airliners of its time. 

However, despite the innovations and efforts of the aviators, a number of conceptual errors and fierce competition did not allow the flagship of the British aviation industry to become a world leader. Only 54 planes were produced."

Britain had so many skilfully people , who could design aircraft, some video say UK government  or BOAC having a bigger say, caused problems, not that I know, so I use simple terms for a subject, still the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar was said by some to be very advanced and a major investment , but this shows how competitive the airline market is, and every charging need of the customers, airlines based on many factor's  that it is hard to understand for me.

Vc10 Proves Itself (1965)

The Vickers VC10 is a mid-sized, narrow-body long-range British jet airliner designed and built by Vickers-Armstrongs (Aircraft) Ltd and first flown at Brooklands, Surrey, in 1962. The airliner was designed to operate on long-distance routes from the shorter runways of the era and commanded excellent hot and high performance for operations from African airports. The performance of the VC10 was such that it achieved the fastest crossing of the Atlantic by a subsonic jet airliner of 5 hours and 1 minute, a record that was held for 41 years, until February 2020 when a British Airways Boeing 747 broke the record at 4 hours 56 minutes due to Storm Ciara.^[1][2][3] Only the supersonic Concorde was faster. The VC10 is often compared to the larger Soviet Ilyushin Il-62, the two types being the only airliners to use a rear-engined quad layout. The smaller business jet Lockheed JetStar also has this engine arrangement.

Although only a relatively small number of VC10s were built, they provided long service with BOAC and other airlines from the 1960s to 1981. They were also used from 1965 as strategic air transports for the Royal Air Force, and ex-passenger models and others were used as aerial refuelling aircraft. The 50th anniversary of the first flight of the prototype VC10, G-ARTA, was celebrated with a "VC10 Retrospective" Symposium and the official opening of a VC10 exhibition at Brooklands Museum on 29 June 2012. The type was retired from RAF service on 20 September 2013.^[4] It has been succeeded in the aerial refuelling role by the Airbus Voyager. VC10 K.3 ZA147 performed the final flight of the type on 25 September 2013

Should of had one quick clean, then two stable cleans, but this went down to one quick clean and one stable clean.

So did not get 745109 that arrived at platform 2 Norwich Thorpe railway station at 23:22 to clean, as it was locked 🔒 up, and sent to Crown Point Depot, this was used for the 06:28 Norwich Thorpe to London Liverpool Street.

I did not know the 07:26 Norwich Thorpe to London Liverpool Street was going to be the first arrival,  745003 was cleaned at Harwich Parkston Quay last night, and arrived in service at 08:17, we done a littler pick up, and bins, very litter trash on this train, still it would of been nice to know before hand than need to guess, each time it feel that cleaning is not part of the real railway, and some staff enjoy making it harder ?

This train was not on the list I got, may be I should of guessed it, I did just before it came in.

Another give away that it was not just two BMU's, like the day before, was it said 12 coach on the Passenger information screens (PIS), which is 745, if it was 8 coach, then it would be two x four coach BMU 755's..

When I try to tell other what happen, no one else seem to understand, may be no one else can understand me, I do not suit this job at all.

I do fill a bit bitter about this, what I feel has never fixed it in the past, and just help to make it worse.

When I was young, in the 1970, I went to Speech Therapy, and was told that I was just making it up, I have no problems, I still remember where it was, near The Cathedral of St John the Baptist, Unthank Road, on a side road the other side. may be Paragon Place, but looking at Google Maps, I think it is West Pottergate Medical Practice, NR2 4BX, but memory is a strange thing, what I think is true, might not be.

Robots can work 24 hours, no holidays, no sickness, no opinions, I am looking forward to being replace by Robby the Robot, but Forbidden Planet 🌏 was made in 1950's, if it is so easy to do, and could be done any time now in 2022, why has it not been done?

I keep getting told by others it will happen, in the future I will not be needed, but still I am busy doing this "worthless job" of cleaning?  

I would not need to be replaced by a robot, if every person cleaned after themselves? 

I wonder how many jobs people do not notice, until they are not done?

"Key Workers", was the Council workers who empty our bins, fix our heating, the carers, keep the electrical supply, gas coming to our homes, the mail workers, delivery drivers, firemen, NHS workers, shop workers, and many more, all now seen as a cost now in 2022 and blamed by our government for our cost of living crisis?

Just like after 2010, the 2008 Credit Crisis was blamed on the ♿ disabled, unemployed, low paid workers, public services, NHS, etc

The list is short, but only four on.

Two people vacuum carpets, one person bins, tables and trash, one on toilets.

I was on vacuum carpets and I try to help a little on trash pick up, but did not do very well.

when started to do Stable Cleans, I did want to do four coaches each, as it more easy to know what to do, but others want to share work together, so I put bags out on Low Level and did a little pick up on some of the train before I started to vaccum carpets, then windows.

On second train, I put the bags out, then started to do litter pick up and change bins liners, as that was a Intercity 745/0 EMU, three times the amount of bins, large tables, First Class, it much harder than 745/1 EMU's that are designed for Stansted Airport to Liverpool Street, but also used on Norwich to London too.

I was a bit slower vaccum carpet's, as I was on my second bags for the night and thought it would not fill up that fast, it was full up, this slowed me a bit when doing the carpets.

On Breck I changed the bags and fully charge batteries, took trash round to skip, then 745004 came in.

I done a little pick up on this, well did try, the Driver was Preparing and doing checks, then left it, Pan Down, so half way, the light started to go out, and doors locked?

I done it, it was made harder by light that keep going out, it also slowed me down.

I was not happy about this, and do not know why some other staff aim for or ? Still I just got it done, all trash and bins, I think there was one bag left on the train and another on the platform, which I got latter.

Then done one BMU and check another, 401 in Low Level.

Then back on platform 2, 745004, with DISCO lights, making it a lot harder still, I need to see when cleaning, doors locked, so accessing via cabs.

Some BMU on Jubilee siding of Thorpe Station, being Saturday night, a night for our drinking culture, and some people feel and are sick 🤮 because of it, all takes extra time to clean up.

So the night shift had been challenging, even if the number of trains seem low, it was not easy,.

Well not easy for me, may be.
