Watching the

The bird in the images is a Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius), often simply referred to as a Jay in Europe and the UK. [1]
Despite being a member of the crow family (corvids), it is highly colorful and easy to recognize: [1]
  • Plumage: It features a distinctive pinkish-brown or buff body.
  • Wings: A vibrant, electric-blue panel finely barred with black and white is visible on the wing.
  • Head & Tail: It sports a prominent black "moustache" (malar stripe) on its cheek and a black tail. [1, 2, 3]
They are woodland birds famous for their love of acorns, which they actively bury and cache during the autumn. [1, 2]
Would you like to know how to attract them to your garden or more about their unique mimicking behaviors?
