City Sugar - starring Tim Curry (1978)

"City Sugar" is a stage play by Stephen Poliakoff that was adapted into a successful television series starring Tim Curry. The play, originally staged at the Bush Theatre in 1975, follows the story of a DJ, Leonard Brazil, as he runs a competition aimed at a youth audience, only to realize he is getting old. The play was directed by Mike Vardy and featured Tim Curry in the lead role. The television adaptation, which aired on ITV's "The Sunday Drama" series on August 6, 1978, provided a satirical look at the power of the disc-jockey over the modern teenager. The play was shot entirely on location in Glasgow and was a considerable success on television.
